Authorities are investigating the fatal shooting of Barangay Captain Michelle Lamela and her husband, Rodney Arellano Lamela, in Tinocuan, Dueñas, Iloilo.
The couple, aged 47 and 48 respectively, were ambushed in Bangga Tonoy and leave behind seven children.
According to Police Regional Office 6 Director Brig. Gen. Jack Wanky, investigators are exploring motives linked to politics or past personal disputes.
Wanky confirmed they are considering a “politically motivated” angle and incidents involving the husband, including a 1994 killing related to a cockfighting dispute.
Another lead being pursued involves a 2008 homicide case tied to the husband, which resulted from a confrontation with a relative of a former police officer.
No witnesses have come forward yet, but authorities assured the public they are making progress in solving the case.
Police confirmed they are holding evidence that could shed light on the incident as the investigation continues.
