Former Negros Oriental Congressman Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr. will remain in the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) detention facility at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City until his scheduled arraignment.
According to Department of Justice (DOJ) spokesperson Mico Clavano, the court has yet to issue an order for Teves’ arraignment or the reading of charges against him.
Until an official court order is released, Teves will remain detained at the NBI facility.
The Prosecutor General is currently consulting with handling prosecutors regarding the possible consolidation or transfer of multiple cases filed against Teves from Negros Oriental to Manila.
Teves faces multiple murder charges before the Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 12, Branch 15, and Bayawan RTC Branch 63.
He is also charged with illegal possession of firearms and explosives before Manila RTC Branch 12, and violations of the Terrorism Financing Prevention and Suppression Act of 2012 before Quezon City RTC Branch 77.
Teves fled the Philippines before the March 4, 2023 assassination of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo, which also resulted in the deaths of nine others.
Following his expulsion from the House of Representatives, Teves sought political asylum in Timor-Leste, but his request was denied.
On May 27, 2025, Timor-Leste authorities arrested Teves and turned him over to the Philippine government, leading to his deportation.
He arrived in Manila on May 29, 2025, and was immediately transferred to the NBI detention facility at Bilibid, where he awaits legal proceedings.
