Armed Suspect Killed in Cebu City Shootout; SWAT Operative Injured

An armed man was killed in a shootout with police officers in Barangay Pahina Central, Cebu City, on Thursday, March 27, 2025.

In an interview with Bombo Radyo Cebu, a barangay watchman confirmed they received a report about an armed individual in the area.

Authorities attempted to negotiate with the suspect, identified only as alias ‘Cardo’, but he refused to surrender, saying he knew he would be arrested and imprisoned.

Barangay officials called for police assistance from Carbon Police Station-5, but the suspect suddenly opened fire upon the responding officers.

This led to a confrontation with SWAT operatives, resulting in an exchange of gunfire that alarmed nearby residents.

Following the shootout, the suspect was found lifeless on the ground.

Police Colonel Enrico Figueroa, Acting City Director of the Cebu City Police Office, arrived at the crime scene shortly after and spoke with the media.

According to authorities, the suspect displayed unexpected aggression, firing at police officers as soon as the SWAT team arrived.

One SWAT operative sustained a minor facial injury from the gunfight but is currently in stable condition.

An investigation is ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the incident.
