An American Navy veteran and his companion were killed in Cebu City after a violent altercation with a neighbor in Lucas Compound, Bayabas Extension, Barangay Punta Princesa, on the night of February 18, 2025.
The victims were identified as 39-year-old George Kyle Lucas, a retired U.S. Navy officer, and his 59-year-old companion, Nicardo Nombrado, both residents of the area.
The suspect was identified as 33-year-old Kevin Asia.
According to police investigations, Asia suddenly entered the compound and began harassing residents due to depression over his wife’s disappearance and alleged drug influence.
One of the victims advised him to leave, but he refused and continued his aggressive behavior, leading to a confrontation.
At one point, Asia was struck with a baseball bat but remained unfazed, prompting Lucas to draw his firearm.
Lucas fired at the suspect, hitting him in the leg, but Asia retaliated, seizing the weapon and opening fire.
He shot both victims, hitting one in the neck and Lucas in the back, instantly killing them.
Authorities responded immediately, arresting and neutralizing the suspect, who was still considered a threat to the community.
Asia was taken to Cebu City Medical Center for treatment of his gunshot wound before being placed in police custody.
He is now facing double murder charges for the fatal shooting.
