The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is planning to procure missile systems, warships, and fighter jets to strengthen the country’s defense capabilities.
The military aims to complete its air and missile defense integration and establish a strong and reliable deterrent force.
This was announced by AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo S. Brawner Jr. during the Raisina Dialogue held from March 17 to 19, 2025, in New Delhi, India.
Brawner emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships, particularly with India, where the Philippines has successfully collaborated on the BrahMos missile system.
“We are looking at acquiring more missile systems to complete the integration of our air and missile defense. Alongside this, we will be purchasing more warships and multi-role fighter jets to build a strong and reliable deterrent force,” Brawner stated.
In addition to procurement, the AFP is exploring joint manufacturing, technology transfer, and local production in support of the country’s growing defense industry.
General Brawner’s attendance at the Raisina Dialogue marked the first-ever participation of the AFP in the annual conference, highlighting the Philippines’ commitment to deepening international cooperation and addressing security challenges.
The AFP reaffirmed its dedication to defending the country’s sovereignty.
With its ongoing modernization program, the AFP stated it is prepared to face emerging threats and secure the nation’s maritime and aerial domains through strategic capability-building.
