The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Region 1 has conducted a pre-disaster risk assessment (PDRA) to prepare for the potential impact of Typhoon Uwan in the Ilocos Region.

According to OCD Region 1 Public Information Officer Adreanne Pagsolingan, the assessment aimed to ensure the readiness of local government units (LGUs) and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (MDRRMOs) for timely response and aid delivery.

Initial findings identified 19 barangays across Region 1 as highly susceptible to landslides and flooding, with the possibility of more areas being added as the storm progresses.

OCD Region 1 is closely monitoring the typhoon’s movement and warned of potential storm surges and coastal flooding in parts of Northern Luzon.

While specific coastal areas have yet to be confirmed, the agency remains on high alert, especially for shoreline communities.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has assured readiness to deploy food and non-food items to families in need of assistance.

Pagsolingan urged residents to stay updated through official advisories, prepare go bags with essential supplies, and comply with preemptive evacuation orders for safety.

The PDRA forms part of the government’s proactive disaster preparedness strategy to mitigate risks and protect vulnerable populations.
