The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) is currently assessing the extent of damage caused by the 6.9-magnitude earthquake that struck on Tuesday night, September 30.

The tremor disrupted power transmission in Leyte, Samar, and parts of the Bohol grid after separation from the Cebu-Negros-Panay-Bohol grid.

NGCP reported that the Daanbantayan Substation near the quake’s epicenter sustained damage, along with the collapse of four 230kV transmission lines.

Five power plants in Cebu and Negros halted operations, resulting in a total load loss of 641 megawatts.

The agency stated that inspections and repairs will begin as soon as conditions are deemed safe, noting that aftershocks are still ongoing.

NGCP also announced it will release updates every four hours until transmission services are fully restored.
