Influencers Face Estafa Charges Over Endorsement of Illegal Online Gambling

Influencers who continue to promote illegal online gambling may face charges of syndicated or large-scale estafa, according to the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC).

The warning follows the agency’s ultimatum issued last week, urging content creators to stop endorsing unlicensed gambling platforms.

CICC Deputy Executive Director Renato Paraiso said that while most influencers have complied, a few remain defiant.

On July 15, the agency began sending formal notices to non-compliant influencers, including groups, asking them to explain why legal action should not be pursued.

Paraiso revealed that top influencers could be earning up to ₱500,000 per week from promoting illegal gambling content.

The CICC also plans to coordinate with social media platforms to take down the channels and pages of content creators who continue to endorse these sites.
