The whereabouts of four missing Filipinos in Myanmar remain unknown following the powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake last Friday, March 28, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

In an interview, DFA Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega confirmed that two of the missing Filipinos are a married couple who were residing in a collapsed building.

The DFA also verified that all missing Filipinos are professionals, including teachers and office workers.

“No Filipino casualties have been reported in Thailand, where the strong earthquake was also felt,” De Vega added.

Myanmar has sought international assistance as the death toll surged to over 1,600 as of Sunday, March 30.

The Philippine Embassy in Yangon stated in a Facebook post that it is continuously conducting welfare checks on affected Filipinos.

The embassy also issued an advisory on possible aftershocks and assured its readiness to provide assistance and support.

Meanwhile, embassy officials are planning to deploy a team to Mandalay for an on-the-ground assessment and direct welfare checks.

The team will also distribute essential aid and evaluate possible evacuation or repatriation routes.

For emergencies, Filipinos in Myanmar can contact the Philippine Embassy via the Assistance-to-Nationals hotline at +95 998 521 0991 or through the official Philippine Embassy in Myanmar Facebook Messenger.
