Myanmar Earthquake Death Toll Surpasses 1,600

The death toll from the powerful earthquake that struck Myanmar on Friday has risen to more than 1,600.

The tremor was felt as far as Thailand, causing the collapse of an under-construction 30-story building in Bangkok.

Rescue teams continue to dig through the rubble in search of survivors trapped beneath collapsed structures.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the number of fatalities could reach up to 10,000.

Meanwhile, international aid has begun arriving following a request for assistance from Myanmar’s ruling military government.

A Chinese rescue team arrived in Myanmar on Saturday morning, as reported by state media, while India dispatched rescue and medical teams along with immediate aid.
