The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has warned of possible lahar flows from Mayon Volcano due to continuous rains caused by the shearline.

The agency explained that heavy rainfall could wash down volcanic sediments, creating lahar flows through established channels on Mayon Volcano’s slopes.

This phenomenon may result in muddy water surges that pose a threat to communities situated on the middle and lower slopes of the volcano.

Potentially affected areas include Miisi, Binaan, Anoling, Quirangay, Maninila, Masarawag, Muladbucad, Nasisi, Mabinit, Matan-ag, Basud, and Bulawan channels in Albay.

PHIVOLCS has urged local governments in these areas to monitor the situation closely and implement pre-emptive measures to protect residents from potential hazards.
