Typhoon Julian is expected to affect more than 218K hectares of rice farms

Typhoon Julian’s predicted impact on rice farms in northern Luzon has intensified.

According to data from the Philippine Rise Information System (PRISM), strong winds and torrential rainfall could impact 218,425 hectares of rice farms in northern Luzon.

Following the heavy rains, PRISM increased the estimate to 218,425 hectares from more than 108,000 hectares the day before.

A substantial portion of it originates from Cagayan Valley, Ilocos Region, and Cordillera Administrative Region.

Several rice fields in Central Luzon are projected to be damaged, including those in Pampanga and Bulacan.

Before the ravages of Typhoon Julian, farmers have harvested up to 137,753 hectares of rice fields, with more than 131,000 hectares ripening approximately to be harvested.

A total of 86,786 hectares of rice crops are currently in reproductive phase.
