178 Aftershocks Recorded Following Ilocos Sur Magnitude 5.0 Earthquake

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has recorded 178 aftershocks following the magnitude 5.0 earthquake that struck Ilocos Sur.

The main quake was recorded on December 19, 2024.

Of that number, 62 aftershocks were plotted or detected by two or three seismic stations.

However, only two of these were felt by residents in the area, especially since the epicenter was offshore or in the sea.

The aftershocks ranged in magnitude from 1.8 to 4.6.

Their depths ranged from 1 to 80 km.

Experts are advising the public to remain alert as more aftershocks are possible.
