A 14-year-old boy was killed in a hit-and-run incident in Barangay Sibujo, Libmanan, Camarines Sur.
Police Senior Master Sergeant Juan Batolina, spokesperson of the Libmanan Municipal Police Station, reported the incident during an interview with Bombo Radyo Naga.
According to an initial investigation, the boy was playing with friends near a waiting shed by the highway. While lying on the road as part of a game, a heavy equipment truck swerved and hit him, causing his immediate death.
The truck driver fled the scene after the incident.
Investigators have identified a possible suspect with the help of CCTV footage connected to the barangay’s surveillance system.
In a separate incident, a 38-year-old man, identified as Mark Joseph Hernandez, lost his leg after being hit by a 10-wheeler truck in Barangay San Isidro along Maharlika Highway.
Hernandez, a truck helper, was fixing his vehicle’s tire when the 10-wheeler truck, driven by Jayvee Canlas, hit him.
The victim was rushed to the hospital, where doctors amputated his leg.
Authorities conducted a hot pursuit operation and apprehended Canlas in front of a mall in Naga City.
Police officials have urged motorists to exercise extra caution, especially along the poorly lit sections of Maharlika Highway, as the limited lighting from solar lamps poses significant risks.
