Captain Dennis Turla, MPD-Homicide chief, clarified, “The 13-year-old found the gun in the drawer, opened it, and for whatever reason, a shot was fired. His younger sibling was sleeping when the bullet penetrated the room after striking a cabinet.”

The bullet hit the seven-year-old on the left side of his back. He later died from his injuries at the hospital.

The father of the two boys may face both administrative and criminal charges following the tragic incident. He is currently in police custody.

In a statement, the father said, “This is probably God’s will. Nobody wanted this to happen. [To my son], please don’t blame yourself. What happened to my children is too heavy to bear. It’s hard to accept.”#
