THE Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) successfully rescued 11 crew members of the motorbanca MBCA God’s Grace 9 after it became half-submerged off the coast of Occidental Mindoro.

In a statement issued Wednesday, the PCG reported that the vessel was located 2 nautical miles west of Ambil Island, Looc, following distress calls relayed by the vessel’s owner.

An initial investigation revealed that the motorbanca encountered rough seas while en route to Calatagan, Batangas. It was struck by an unidentified object, resulting in a two-foot hole on its starboard side.

Despite efforts by the crew to patch the damage with rags and plywood, water continued to flood the vessel, leaving it partially submerged.

The PCG credited the swift action of personnel from the Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Lubang and the assistance of the MV Lubang Express for ensuring the safe rescue of all crew members.

“The PCG commends the quick response of CGSS Lubang personnel and the cooperation of the MV Lubang Express in ensuring the safety of the crew.

The PCG reminds all mariners to regularly inspect their vessels for seaworthiness and to exercise caution, especially when navigating in challenging sea conditions,” the statement said.

No injuries were reported, and the PCG continues to emphasize the importance of preparedness and vigilance at sea.
