CAUAYAN CITY – A 69-year-old woman was injured after being attacked with a machete by a colleague at a carnival on Bana Uy Street, District 1, Cauayan City.
The victim, identified as Delia Quaresma, a widow and unemployed, was attacked by Alfredo Abejo, a 40-year-old construction worker. Both the victim and suspect reside on Bana Uy Street, Barangay District 1, Cauayan City, Isabela.
Prior to the incident, the victim had reported the suspect to the on-duty barangay tanods (village watchmen) for causing a disturbance at her home. The tanods promptly arrived and found the victim and the suspect in a heated argument.
The tanods noticed a knife tucked in the suspect’s waistband, which they immediately confiscated.
The suspect then decided to go home, prompting the tanods to leave as well.
However, just minutes later, as the victim was closing her store, the suspect returned with a machete and attacked her, inflicting injuries on her left arm and left leg.
The victim ran to her daughter’s house, screaming for help. When her children and grandchildren came out, they found her bleeding and saw the suspect attempting to flee.
The suspect was quickly apprehended and handed over to the police, while the victim was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Charges are now being prepared against the suspect, who is currently in the custody of the Cauayan City Police Station.
