FOUR power transmission lines in the Visayas have gone offline as Tropical Depression Verbena continues to affect large parts of the Philippines.
In its 9 a.m. report on Tuesday, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said the following lines are currently unavailable:
- Sta. Barbara–Miagao–San Joaquin 69kV Line, serving Iloilo 1 Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ILECO I)
- Iloilo–La Paz 69kV Line, serving ILECO I and MORE Electric and Power Corporation
- Ubay–Garcia 69kV Line, serving Bohol II Electric Cooperative, Inc. (BOHECO II)
- Paranas–Quinapondan 69kV Line, serving Eastern Samar Electric Cooperative Inc. (ESAMELCO)
NGCP said line crews have been deployed to conduct patrols and begin restoration work in the affected areas.
According to the 8 a.m. advisory from the weather bureau, Verbena was last spotted near Canlaon City, Negros Oriental, moving west-northwest at 20 kilometers per hour.
It is carrying maximum sustained winds of 55 kph and gusts of up to 90 kph.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 remains in effect over several provinces:
Luzon: Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, northern and central Palawan, including Puerto Princesa City—and mainland Masbate.
Visayas: Antique, Aklan, Capiz, Iloilo, Guimaras, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Siquijor, Cebu, Bohol, Samar, Eastern Samar, Biliran, Leyte, and Southern Leyte.
Mindanao: Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, parts of Surigao del Sur and Agusan del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Camiguin, Misamis Oriental, northern Misamis Occidental, and northern Zamboanga del Norte.
Authorities continue to monitor Verbena’s movement as the storm affects power infrastructure and weather conditions across the country.
