Trump’s Bold Gaza Takeover Plan: Key Points You Need to Know

FORMER U.S. President Donald Trump unveiled a controversial plan to “take over” Gaza, relocate Palestinians to neighboring countries, and transform the war-torn enclave into what he envisions as the “Riviera of the Middle East.”

His remarks represent a significant departure from long-standing U.S. foreign policy, which has traditionally supported a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine.

TRUMP PROPOSES U.S. CONTROL OVER GAZA

Trump stated that the U.S. would assume “long-term ownership” of Gaza, overseeing its redevelopment after the extensive destruction caused by 15 months of war between Israel and Hamas.

His plan includes clearing unexploded ordnance, demolishing damaged buildings, and potentially deploying U.S. troops if necessary.

Analysts have raised doubts about the feasibility of this proposal, as no established legal mechanism exists for such a takeover.

Additionally, international law prohibits the forced removal of Gaza’s two million Palestinian residents, many of whom have already been displaced multiple times.

PALESTINIAN OPPOSITION TO TRUMP’S VISION

Palestinians have overwhelmingly rejected Trump’s proposal, viewing it as an affront to their aspirations for statehood.

Trump downplayed their desire to return to Gaza, calling it a “symbol of death and destruction” and suggesting they be resettled elsewhere.

Hamas has condemned the plan as a “recipe for chaos,” while a large portion of Gaza’s population remains determined to return home despite the devastation.

TRUMP SEES GAZA AS A REAL ESTATE OPPORTUNITY

Trump described Gaza’s “phenomenal location” and “great weather” as assets that could turn it into a prime international destination.

He envisions a global community living in Gaza, likening its redevelopment potential to luxury resort areas.

His son-in-law, Jared Kushner, previously described Gaza as “very valuable waterfront property,” echoing Trump’s business-oriented perspective on the region.

ISRAELI FAR RIGHT EMBRACES TRUMP’S PROPOSAL

Far-right Israeli politicians, including Itamar Ben Gvir, have expressed strong support for Trump’s plan, viewing it as a solution to the ongoing conflict. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also praised the proposal, stating it could “change history” by removing the threat posed by Gaza.

ARAB NATIONS AND U.S LAWMAKERS REJECT THE PLAN

Trump claims his proposal has widespread support, but Arab nations, including Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Egypt, have dismissed the idea, calling it a violation of Palestinian rights.

Critics argue that forced displacement would amount to ethnic cleansing.

U.S. lawmakers from both parties have expressed skepticism.

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham called the idea “problematic,” while Democratic Senator Chris Coons labeled it “offensive, insane, dangerous, and foolish.”

As Trump continues to push his vision, its political and diplomatic feasibility remains highly uncertain, with strong opposition from Palestinians, Arab nations, and many U.S. policymakers.
