Three people died in a nine-vehicle pileup on the national highway in Barangay San Nicolas, Candon City, Ilocos Sur.
The crash involved a Honda CRV, a Toyota Innova, a Mitsubishi Strada, three motorcycles, and three tricycles.
The Honda CRV was driven by 57-year-old Louie Ganon Garnace, with passenger Dandilo Pascua Galigaro, both from San Isidro, Candon City.
The pileup also involved motorcycles driven by Rolando Marillies Madarang, 56, of Barangay Bagani Ubbog, and Claude Apigo Joshua, 29, of Barangay San Nicolas.
Tricycles driven by Roger Manzano Agonoy of Barangay San Nicolas and Expedito Olivo Escalano Angal, 55, of Barangay Talogtog, were also hit.
Other vehicles involved included a Motorstar motorcycle driven by Ronald Espanto, 32, and a Toyota Innova driven by Eirene Mary Valdez Jemima, 21, of Sta. Lucia.
A Mitsubishi Strada driven by Jacklord Peralta Framil, 44, of Sta. Cruz, was parked near Candon City Hospital when it was struck.
A pedestrian, 68-year-old Clavel Ronas Narbasa of Barangay San Nicolas, was also caught in the crash.
According to the initial investigation, eight vehicles were traveling southbound while the Mitsubishi Strada was parked.
The accident began when the Honda CRV collided with a Rusi motorcycle and a Honda Black Airblade motorcycle, then struck a tricycle driven by Agonoy.
The CRV did not stop and continued to crash into two more motorcycles, another tricycle, and two four-wheeled vehicles.
All the injured victims, including the CRV driver, were rushed to Candon City Hospital and Ilocos Sur Medical Center.
The CRV passenger, along with the drivers of the Rusi and Skygo motorcycles, were declared dead on arrival.
Authorities discovered that the CRV driver was intoxicated at the time of the accident.
