Student Dies in Multi-Vehicle Accident

A 20-year-old college student was killed in a road accident along the National Highway in Barangay Pias, Currimao, Ilocos Norte.

Police identified the victim as Ace Balino, a resident of Barangay Dariwdiw, Batac City.

The incident involved a dump truck driven by 44-year-old Abe Roque Ventura of Barangay 9 Ab-but, Piddig, and a tricycle driven by 28-year-old Mark Anthony Sr. Ursos of San Juan, Ilocos Sur.

Initial investigations revealed that the motorcycle, driven by Balino, was heading south when it collided with a tricycle traveling in the same direction.

The impact caused Balino to swerve into the opposite lane, where he was struck by an oncoming dump truck.

Responding authorities declared Balino dead on the spot due to severe injuries.

Passengers of the tricycle, identified as Mark Anthony Jr. Orencillo and Angela Mae Castro, sustained injuries, while the dump truck driver was unharmed.

Police have detained the dump truck driver for documentation and filing of appropriate charges.
