South Korean President Lee Jae Myung is scheduled to visit the Philippines together with his wife, First Lady Kim Hea Kyung. The visit to the Palace will take place from March 3 to 4 upon the invitation of President Bongbong Marcos.
According to Palace Press Officer and Undersecretary Claire Castro, this will be President Lee’s first state visit since the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the Philippines and South Korea took effect. Their visit also coincides with the 77th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which began in March 1949.
President Marcos and First Lady Liza Marcos are expected to personally welcome President Lee and First Lady Kim at Malacañang. Part of the agenda is a bilateral meeting where they will discuss expanding cooperation in defense, maritime affairs, the economy, and development initiatives, as well as strengthening people-to-people exchanges.
The two leaders will also talk about important regional and global issues as they continue the strong strategic partnership between the Philippines and South Korea. It can be recalled that President Marcos Jr. and President Lee already met at the APEC Summit in Gyeongju in October 2025, and also spoke by phone on August 14, 2025, to reaffirm their commitment to closer cooperation between the two countries.
