Severe Tropical Storm Emong continues to intensify while tracking southwestward over the sea west of Ilocos Region, prompting widespread wind alerts and marine warnings across Northern Luzon and adjacent areas.
As of 4:00 AM on July 24, 2025, the storm was located 245 km west of Bacnotan, La Union with maximum sustained winds reaching 110 km/h near the center and gusts up to 135 km/h, moving at 25 km/h. Storm-force winds now extend outward up to 220 km.
PAGASA raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 3 over parts of Pangasinan and western La Union, indicating moderate to significant threats to life and property. TCWS No. 2 covers Ilocos provinces and portions of Cordillera and Cagayan Valley. Meanwhile, TCWS No. 1 includes Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, and parts of Nueva Ecija, Zambales, and Isabela.
Enhanced southwest monsoon conditions triggered by both Severe Tropical Storm Emong and DANTE continue to bring strong to gale-force gusts across Metro Manila, Central Luzon, MIMAROPA, CALABARZON, Visayas, and parts of Mindanao through Saturday.
PAGASA also warned of storm surges ranging from 1.0 to 2.0 meters along vulnerable coastlines in Batanes, Cagayan, Ilocos, Pangasinan, and Zambales.
Sea conditions remain dangerous: very rough seas up to 14 meters are expected off Ilocos and La Union coasts, with similarly hazardous conditions along the seaboards of Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro. Mariners are strongly advised to remain in port.
Emong is forecast to move southeastward before veering north-northeast, potentially making landfall over Ilocos Region late tonight or early tomorrow. Re-emergence over Luzon Strait and proximity to Babuyan Islands is expected afterward.
With further intensification to typhoon strength possible, public and local disaster response units are urged to take precautionary measures, especially in high-risk areas.
