A senior citizen tragically lost her life after being hit by a car while crossing the road in front of Mt. Apo Gardens Cemetery in Calinan, Davao City.
The victim, identified only as “Evangeline,” 62 years old and a resident of Purok 9, New Loon, Tugbok District, had just finished lighting candles at the cemetery when the incident occurred.
According to the Calinan Police, she was crossing the pedestrian lane along Davao-Bukidnon Road around 7:00 PM when a vehicle suddenly struck her.
The impact of the collision threw her onto the pavement, causing severe injuries that led to her immediate death.
The driver, identified as “William,” 35 years old and a resident of Purok 4-B, Gumalang, Calinan, was taken into police custody along with the vehicle involved.
Authorities are conducting further investigation to determine liability and whether charges will be filed.
The incident occurred during the observance of Undas, a time when many Filipinos visit cemeteries to honor their departed loved ones.
