Senior Citizen Dies After Being Hit by Truck, Driver in Custody

A retired teacher died in a tragic road accident along F. Parcon Street in Pototan, Iloilo after being struck by a truck driven by a man who claims the incident was accidental.

The driver, identified as Eddie Condino, 37 years old, married, and a resident of Barangay San Roque, Dumalag, Capiz, is currently under police custody.

The victim was Liberty Perez, a 66-year-old retired teacher and resident of Barangay Cau-ayan, Pototan, Iloilo.

In an interview with Bombo Radyo, Police Lieutenant Adrian Baligod, Deputy Chief of Police of the Pototan Municipal Police Station, stated that the driver admitted he felt something had been run over by the rear portion of the truck.

According to Baligod, the driver got down to check and found the lifeless body of the victim beneath the rear of the vehicle.

The driver also claimed he did not expect anyone to be crossing at that area since the pedestrian lane was still 50 meters away from the point of the incident.

Initial police investigation revealed that the senior citizen was supposedly out to buy food for her graduating grandchild.

The truck driver has since reached out to the victim’s family following the incident.

He remains in police custody as authorities await the decision of the victim’s family regarding possible legal action.
