Senator Francis “Tol” Tolentino has called for simplifying weather advisories from the state weather bureau to make them more understandable to the general public.
Tolentino stressed the importance of clear communication, noting that lives are at stake whenever the country is struck by a typhoon.
He urged the weather bureau to work with linguistics experts from the University of the Philippines, media professionals, and communication experts to ensure advisories are easily understood.
Tolentino also emphasized the need for strong collaboration between local government units and the private sector to enhance disaster response efforts.
He suggested that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) partner with private construction firms to swiftly deploy heavy equipment, such as backhoes and bulldozers, to clear debris from roads and bridges in disaster-hit areas.
This would enable quicker access for rescue and relief teams, ensuring prompt aid to affected communities.
Tolentino highlighted the urgency of these measures as the frequency and intensity of typhoons continue to increase in the country.
