Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero confirmed that the Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte will be formally presented on June 11, 2025, to allow Congress to first deliberate on priority legislative measures before adjourning the 19th Congress.
Escudero emphasized that with only six session days remaining over the next two weeks, it is critical to pass pending priority bills before Congress officially adjourns on June 14, 2025.
In a letter sent to House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez on May 29, with a copy also furnished to the Office of the Vice President, Escudero noted that at least 12 important bills pledged for passage remain pending in Congress.
Aside from legislation, the Senate also cited the need to act on over 200 presidential appointments, which include three Cabinet secretaries, four officials from constitutional commissions, 39 foreign service officers, and 277 officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
The initial schedule for the presentation of the impeachment articles was set for June 2, but it has since been moved to accommodate the remaining legislative workload.
Once the Articles of Impeachment are presented to the Senate plenary, the chamber will convene as an impeachment court, officially initiating the trial proceedings against VP Duterte.
