Senate Honors Glenn Banaguas, First Filipino RSA Distinguished Fellow

The Philippine Senate, through Adopted Resolution No. 158, has officially commended Glenn Banaguas as the first Filipino science diplomat to be recognized as a Distinguished Fellow at the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures, and Commerce (RSA) in the United Kingdom.

Originally filed as Senate Resolution No. 479 in 2023, this significant achievement was formalized on September 10, 2024.

Banaguas, a renowned figure in climate change, disaster risk reduction, and sustainability, is the founder of the Environmental and Climate Change Research Institute (ECCRI).

His RSA fellowship places him among global leaders such as Marie Curie and Nelson Mandela, marking a milestone for the Philippines’ scientific community.

Senator Maria Lourdes Nancy S. Binay, along with co-sponsor Senator Ramon Bong Revilla, emphasized Banaguas’ exceptional contributions to science diplomacy and his efforts to address urgent issues like climate change and disaster risks.

Banaguas expressed gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed his commitment to advancing sustainable development, particularly in communities vulnerable to climate impacts.

His leadership has earned numerous accolades, including the United Nations Sasakawa Award for Disaster Risk Reduction and The Outstanding Filipino (TOFIL) Laureate for Environmental Conservation.
