Road Accident Claims Taxi Driver’s Life, Injures Four Passengers

A taxi driver was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital, while three passengers were injured in a collision with a Toyota Hilux at 11:10 PM in Butuan City.

The taxi driver was identified as Vennie Moran Monteclaro, 56, a married resident of Aquarius St., Brgy J.P. Rizal, Butuan City.

The injured passengers were Nida Rosillo Madelo, 39, a resident of Purok Pag-asa, Brgy Rosario, Tandag City; Mary Ann Mahilum Borja, 34, and Roberto Mahilum Pamaus Jr., 34, both residents of Purok Kalipayan, Brgy Bongtud, Tandag City.

Police investigations revealed that the taxi was speeding towards Brgy. Ampayon when a Toyota Hilux, driven by Elvis Castillo Estrella, 44, suddenly made a U-turn, causing the collision.

Estrella, a resident of Purok-3, Brgy Poblacion, RTR, Agusan del Norte, was brought to Agusan del Norte Provincial Hospital.

Both vehicles, which sustained significant damage, are currently under the custody of Butuan City Police Station 1.
