Rider Dies in Motorcycle-Van Collision in Cauayan City

A 23-year-old woman was killed after her motorcycle collided with a van along the Provincial Road in Barangay Sta. Luciana, Cauayan City at around 10:30 p.m. on October 26.

The victim was identified as Jessica, a resident of Barangay San Antonio, Cauayan City, and the driver of a Yamaha Mio Sporty.

According to the Cauayan City Police Station, Jessica was heading eastbound toward Sta. Luciana Proper when she encountered a Mitsubishi L300 van driven by Kim Gerald Esguerra, 32, also from Barangay San Antonio.

Initial investigation revealed that both vehicles were traveling in opposite directions when Jessica reportedly lost control of her motorcycle while ascending a slope, causing her to crash into the oncoming van.

Jessica sustained severe injuries to multiple parts of her body and was immediately rushed to the hospital by Rescue 922 responders, but was declared dead on arrival by her attending physician.

Both vehicles involved in the crash sustained damages.

The driver of the L300 van is currently in police custody and faces charges of Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Homicide and Damage to Property.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the motorcycle-van collision in Cauayan City.
