NBI probe into Duterte’s kill threat against senators has been requested by Lanao del Sur Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong following the former president’s controversial remarks.

Adiong urged the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s statement about killing 15 senators to secure seats for his candidates.

He emphasized that if the NBI launched a probe into Vice President Sara Duterte’s alleged threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, then Duterte’s statements should also be scrutinized.

During a gathering in San Juan City, Duterte spoke about the upcoming elections and the current Senate composition.

In his speech, he proposed a radical approach to ensure his allies’ victory.

His statement was met with loud cheers from his supporters, who chanted in unison, “Kill! Kill! Kill!”

Adiong stressed that such remarks should not be dismissed, especially given past incidents where Duterte’s supporters acted on his words.

He noted that while Duterte might claim he was joking, “pero hindi niya puwedeng itago sa joke ang pagbabanta sa mga senador.” (“but he cannot hide threats against senators behind a joke.”)

He called on the NBI to determine whether such statements, particularly those inciting violence, fall under existing laws.
