Poultry Farmers Suffer Losses as Farmgate Prices Drop

Poultry farmers continue to suffer losses due to the sharp decline in farmgate prices.

According to United Broiler Raisers Association (UBRA) Chairman Emeritus Gregorio San Diego, farmgate prices have fallen to P98 per kilo, while retail costs remain high at P230 per kilo.

He added that the current farmgate price is far from sufficient, as production costs range from P110 to P115 per kilo.

Despite the drop in farmgate prices, farmers have no control over retail prices in the market.

The group has called on the Department of Agriculture to take action against overpriced retail costs of chicken.
