President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and United States Vice President Kamala Harris discussed strengthening Philippines-US relations during a phone call last night.
Vice President Harris emphasized the importance of maintaining a robust partnership between the two nations, especially amid China’s continued aggression in the West Philippine Sea.
She reiterated the US government’s commitment to supporting the Philippines in addressing the territorial dispute.
The phone conversation followed a recent trilateral discussion between US President Joe Biden and Japan Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. Harris assured Marcos of bipartisan support for the Philippines in the US Congress.
President Marcos expressed gratitude for the support, noting that the Philippines-US partnership is becoming more productive and stronger.
He highlighted the significance of the trilateral agreement signed in Washington, which he believes will positively impact the dynamics in the West Philippine Sea and the Indo-Pacific region.
Marcos also praised Harris for her contributions to the Philippines, particularly in the areas of economics, diplomacy, defense, and security, which he described as “terribly encouraging.”
Before concluding the call, President Marcos extended an invitation for Vice President Harris to visit the Philippines.
