Malacañang has declared special non-working holidays in six areas across the Philippines this May to commemorate local festivals, anniversaries, and notable historical figures.
Through a series of proclamations, the Palace recognized the cultural and historical significance of each locality’s celebration.
Under Proclamation No. 849, May 2 is declared a special non-working holiday in Bauan, Batangas in honor of the Sublian Festival, a traditional event marked by devotion to the Holy Cross and performances of the native Subli dance.
Proclamation No. 850 declares May 5 a special holiday in Santiago City, Isabela to celebrate its 31st cityhood anniversary.
Proclamation No. 851 also designates May 5 as a special non-working holiday in Kapangan, Benguet to honor the birth anniversary of Governor Bado Dangwa, a key official during World War II and provincial governor from 1953 to 1963.
Proclamation No. 852 sets May 8 as a special holiday in President Roxas, Cotabato in observance of the municipality’s 58th founding anniversary.
Meanwhile, under Proclamation No. 853, May 9 is declared a special non-working day in San Jose, Negros Oriental for its charter day celebration.
Lastly, Proclamation No. 854 declares May 20 a special non-working holiday in Uyugan, Batanes to mark its foundation day.
These proclamations aim to support local heritage, boost community pride, and promote cultural awareness through official recognition of these significant occasions.
