A total of 169 families or 534 individuals are currently staying in five evacuation centers in Binmaley, Pangasinan following a pre-emptive evacuation carried out on Sunday morning.
According to Armenia Delos Angeles, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) Head, the evacuation began past 9:00 a.m., particularly in coastal barangays most vulnerable to strong waves and storm surges.
Authorities reported heavy waves along Binmaley’s coastal waters, raising concerns of a possible storm surge that could cause sudden flooding in residential areas.
The local government advised residents to evacuate immediately and not wait for worsening weather conditions to avoid danger, especially those living near the shoreline.
Acting Mayor Edgar Mamenta personally visited several evacuation centers to check on the condition of displaced families.
The mayor inspected facilities, food supplies, and identified gaps in basic needs of evacuees.
Mamenta assured that government offices remain on full alert to provide continuous assistance, including rapid relief distribution and maintaining order at evacuation sites.
He also reminded the public to stay vigilant and heed official advisories to prevent risks and inconvenience as bad weather persists.
Local authorities continue to coordinate with agencies to ensure the safety and welfare of affected families.
Evacuees are still arriving at various centers while response teams monitor households in vulnerable areas.
