Over 100 Barangays Declared in Kanlaon Volcano Lahar Hazard Zone

More than 100 barangays across four cities and ten municipalities have been identified within the lahar hazard zone of Kanlaon Volcano, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

The cities affected include Bago, La Carlota, and San Carlos in Negros Occidental, and Canlaon City in Negros Oriental.

The municipalities listed are Binalbagan, Hinigaran, Isabela, La Castellana, Moises Padilla, Murcia, Pontevedra, San Enrique, Valladolid, and Salvador Benedicto.

In Bago City, the barangays in the hazard zone include Abuanan, Alianza, Atipuluan, Bacong Montilla, Binubuha, Caridad, Dulao, Ilijan, Jorge L. Araneta (Ma-ao Central), Ma-ao Barrio, Mailum, Malingin, Napoles, and Sagasa.

In La Carlota City, the affected barangays are Ara-al, Ayungon, Balabag, Barangays 1, 2, 3 Poblacion, Batuan, Cubay, Haguimit, La Granja, Nagasi, Roberto S. Benedicto, Consuelo, San Miguel, and Yubo.

In San Carlos City, the areas included are Barangays Codcod, Nataban, Prosperidad, and Quezon.

In Binalbagan, the affected barangays are Bagroy, Payao, and San Jose.

In Hinigaran, these include Barangays Aranda, Bato, Calapi, Camalobalo, Candumarao, and Palayog.

For Isabela, the listed barangays are Barangay 3 Poblacion, Barangay 5 Poblacion, Bulad, Buhangin, Camangcamang, Guintubhan, Maytubig, Panaquiao, Rumirang, San Agustin, and Tinongan.

In La Castellana, the affected areas are Cabacungan, Camandag, Lalagsan, Manghanoy, Mansalanao, Masulog, Nato, Puso, Robles (Poblacion), Sag-ang, and Talaptap.

Moises Padilla includes Barangays 1 to 7 Poblacion, Crossing Magallon, Guinpana-an, Inolingan, Macagahay, Magallon Cadre, Montilla, Odiong, and Quintin Remo.

In Murcia, barangays in the hazard zone are Caliban, Damsite, Iglua-an, Lopez Jaena, Minoyan, Pandanon, San Miguel, Santa Rosa, and Talotog.

In Pontevedra, the barangays include Antipolo, Burgos, Don Salvador Benedicto, Carmen, San Juan, and Zamora.

In Salvador Benedicto, the affected barangays are Bunga, Igmaya-an, Kumaliskis, and Pandanon.

In San Enrique, the listed areas are Baliwagan, Guintoliran, and Sibucao.

Lastly, Valladolid includes Barangays Ayungon, Batuan, and Guintorilan.

PHIVOLCS continues to monitor Kanlaon Volcano and advises residents in these areas to remain vigilant and follow safety guidelines.
