OPM Icon Hajji Alejandro Passes Away at 70

Hajji Alejandro death at the age of 70 was confirmed by his family, marking the passing of a veteran icon in Original Pilipino Music (OPM) known for the timeless classic “Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika.”

The announcement was made through an official family statement, expressing deep sorrow and requesting privacy as they mourn.

“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Dad and Son, Angelito ‘Hajji’ Alejandro,” the statement read.

The family also thanked the public for their understanding and support during this difficult time, concluding their message with “To God be the glory.”

It was reported that Alejandro had long been battling stage 4 colon cancer, which had spread to his lungs and liver.

On December 26, 2024, he celebrated what would be his final birthday surrounded by loved ones.

Dubbed “Kilabot ng mga Kolehiyala,” Alejandro began his career as a member of the Circus Band, which also launched the careers of OPM greats like Basil Valdez and Tillie Moreno.

He is survived by his children Rachel, Barni, and Ali Alejandro, and will be remembered as a pillar of the OPM industry.
