MANILA — A woman suspected of illegally selling abortion pills online was arrested in an entrapment operation conducted by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

According to the NBI, the suspect has no license or authority to dispense or sell pharmaceutical products. Acting on a tip, undercover agents ordered a “do-it-yourself” abortion kit from the suspect, which was delivered to Makati.

Once payment was made, operatives apprehended her in Manila.

“We conducted undercover work and set up an entrapment operation to catch her in the act of selling these drugs,” said Jonathan Galicia, chief of the NBI Dangerous Drugs Division. “The drugs were delivered to Makati, and when she received the payment, she was arrested in Manila.”

The seized kit reportedly contained abortion pills with written instructions for unsupervised use. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned the public against using such unregulated drugs.

“This is not allowed for the public. Dispensing requires FDA authority because these are dangerous drugs with DIY instructions, and using them without the supervision of a qualified physician is risky,” Galicia added.

The suspect will be charged with violating the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Law, the Cybercrime Prevention Act, and the Pharmacy Law. Authorities also urged the public to avoid purchasing abortion pills or any unregulated medication online.
