The Lapu-Lapu City Rescue and Volunteer Divers launched a search and rescue operation early Monday morning and recovered Fernandez’s lifeless body.

According to Police Lt. Col. Christian Torres, spokesperson for the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, the victim was already in a state of rigor mortis, indicating he had drowned.

Authorities found no signs of foul play in the incident, suspecting that Fernandez succumbed to the unpredictable weather and strong currents brought by the Amihan season, which continues to create rough seas.
