Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna is set to file her certificate of candidacy on Wednesday, October 2, as she seeks re-election in the 2025 midterm elections.

Lacuna will be running alongside incumbent Vice Mayor Yul Servo Nieto under the local political party Asenso Manileño.

However, Lacuna expressed “feeling betrayed” after her predecessor, former Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, hinted at a possible run for the mayoralty in a recent Facebook post.

According to Lacuna, Moreno had previously assured her and their party that he would retire from politics after his defeat in the 2022 presidential elections, promising not to challenge her for the position.

Lacuna also stated that reconciling their political partnership with Moreno is now unlikely.

While Moreno has yet to officially announce his mayoral bid, reports suggest that he may run alongside TV host and news anchor Chi Atienza as his vice mayor under the Aksyon Demokratiko party.

It is worth noting that in the 2019 midterm elections, Isko Moreno and Honey Lacuna successfully teamed up as Manila’s mayor and vice mayor, respectively.
