Man in Iloilo Shot Dead by Uncle Opposed to His LGBTQ Relationship

A man was shot dead by his own uncle in Sitio Salngan, Barangay Purog, Pototan, Iloilo.

The victim was identified as 24-year-old Joel Mamon Medez, who had a live-in partner and lived in the area.

The suspect, Renante Mamon Dago, also had a live-in partner and is a resident of Barangay Pararinga, Janiuay, Iloilo, but was temporarily staying in Barangay Purog.

Police Lt. Col. Arnel Solis, spokesperson for Police Regional Office 6, told Bombo Radyo Iloilo that the two had been drinking together.

The uncle reportedly opposed his nephew’s relationship with a member of the LGBTQIA+ community.

A heated argument ensued, leading the uncle to shoot his nephew.

The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the chest, which proved fatal.

Authorities are actively searching for the suspect, who fled the scene after committing the crime.
