A magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck off the coast of Saranggani in Davao Occidental early Friday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
The tremor occurred at 7:07 a.m. with its epicenter located at 04.91°N, 126.16°E—approximately 98 kilometers southeast of Sarangani Island.
PHIVOLCS reported that the earthquake originated at a depth of 10 kilometers and was tectonic in nature.
The strongest ground shaking was felt at Intensity V in Malungon, Sarangani.
Meanwhile, Intensity IV was recorded in Kiamba, Sarangani and General Santos City in South Cotabato.
Intensity III tremors were experienced in Magsaysay and Davao City; Matanao in Davao del Sur; Don Marcelino in Davao Occidental; Nabunturan in Davao de Oro; Gingoog City in Misamis Oriental; Maasim, Glan, and Maitum in Sarangani; T’Boli, Surallah, Banga, and Koronadal City in South Cotabato; and Lambayong in Sultan Kudarat.
