OPM singer Jojo Mendrez brings new life to the classic hit “Yakap” with a fresh and modern version of the song.
Known as “The Revival King,” Mendrez gives the timeless hit a heartfelt interpretation for today’s generation. “Yakap” was originally popularized by Junior in 1979.
According to Mendrez, recording “Yakap” has always been a dream project for him.
The singer is known for reviving classic OPM songs, including “Tuyo Na’ng Damdamin” by the APO Hiking Society, “Magkabilang Mundo,” “Sana,” and “Handog” by Florante. His version of “Handog” won Revival Song of the Year at the 11th Star Awards for Music by PMPC.
One of his most successful revivals is “Somewhere in My Past,” originally performed by Julie Vega, which gained over 50 million views across social media. He also revived the international hit “Valentine” by Jim Brickman.
Mendrez is also preparing more remakes, including “Boy,” originally by Timmy Cruz, along with “Bakit Ba Ganyan,” “Tamis ng Unang Halik,” and “Pangako.”
Aside from revivals, he continues to release original songs such as “Nandito Lang Ako”, “Ngayong Pasko’y Ikaw Pa Rin”, “Basta Ikaw,” “Diwa ng Pasko,” “Kahit Sandali,” and “Mula Nang Mawala’y Sayo.” He also wrote “Minahal Kita,” featured in his debut album “Inspirasyon.”
“Yakap” was arranged by Tommy Katigbak, produced by Jonathan Manalo, and released under Star Music.
