An 83-year-old grandfather allegedly shot and killed his granddaughter’s boyfriend after mistakenly thinking he was attempting to steal from their home in Valencia, Negros Oriental.
According to the police report, the 36-year-old male victim had visited the house of his girlfriend, the suspect’s granddaughter, and was seen speaking with her in the living room before heading to her bedroom.
At the time of the incident, the elderly man was resting in the same room and reportedly assumed the victim was a thief when he entered.
Without warning, the grandfather fired at the victim, resulting in the latter’s death.
Authorities later arrested the suspect and charged him with murder and illegal possession of firearms.
The granddaughter has yet to release a statement regarding the incident.
However, the victim’s family insists he had no criminal intentions and denies any accusation of theft.
