Former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile Dies at 101

Former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile passed away today at the age of 101, closing a chapter in Philippine political history marked by both influence and controversy.

Enrile was one of the longest-serving public officials in the country, with a career spanning more than seven decades in government service.

He was a prominent legal and political figure who played key roles in historic national events, from implementing Martial Law under President Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr. to breaking away during the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution.

Enrile served as Secretary of Justice, Secretary of National Defense, and multiple terms as Senator. In 2008, he was elected Senate President, serving until 2013.

Despite his advanced age, Enrile remained active in politics and most recently served as Chief Presidential Legal Counsel under President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
