MANILA – The family of Marvil Facturan, a Filipina allegedly killed by her husband during a vacation in Slovenia, called for justice on Tuesday.

According to her mother, Vilma, Marvil met her husband, Mitja Kocjancic, online in February 2024. Mitja later visited the Philippines and proposed to Marvil on her birthday in July, and they were married in the same month.

Vilma described Kocjancic as a kind and pleasant person, stating she never noticed any signs of trouble in his behavior. “He was good, and he treated her well,” she told RELIABLE SOURCE.

After the wedding, Marvil spent several months processing her documents before traveling to Slovenia on December 22 to join her husband. However, on December 31, Vilma received a call from embassy officials informing her that her daughter had been killed.

Vilma recalled that her daughter had not mentioned any problems, and social media posts from Marvil and her family appeared joyful. “They seemed so happy in their posts, so I was shocked when I received the news,” Vilma said.

Slovenian news reports later revealed that Marvil had been allegedly stabbed to death by her husband. Vilma expressed her disbelief, saying she had not been told the full details of her daughter’s life in Slovenia. “I only knew she was preparing for work there, which was her dream,” she said.

Vilma demanded that Kocjancic be jailed for his alleged crime, rather than being held in a mental institution. “Marvil deserves justice,” she said. “Her husband should be in prison, not in a mental institution.”

In an emotional message to her son-in-law, Vilma said, “Mitja, I wish you had just sent my daughter back home instead of killing her. I wish my daughter were still alive today.”

Vilma also confirmed that the family was in touch with authorities about the possible return of Marvil’s remains, expected either this week or next.
