Eddie Hearns, former promoter of Canelo Alvarez, has predicted that Terrence Crawford may soon retire following his recent victory over Israil Madrimov on August 3, 2024, in Los Angeles.
Crawford, who secured a unanimous decision win, now holds titles in four weight divisions.
However, Hearns believes Crawford should face three key opponents before retiring: Vergil Ortiz, Jaron Ennis, and Canelo Alvarez.
“I don’t think Crawford is interested in a fight with Boots Ennis. I also doubt he’ll fight again unless it’s against Canelo Alvarez because of the financial incentive and his advancing age,” Hearns stated.
Hearns further suggested that Crawford is avoiding Ortiz and criticized him for what he perceives as fortunate scoring in his bout against Madrimov.
The veteran promoter emphasized that at 36, Crawford is seeking high-profile, lucrative fights to cement his legacy, which is why he may be reluctant to face the unbeaten Ennis.
He likened Ennis to a younger version of Crawford, suggesting this is why Crawford is bypassing him.
Meanwhile, Crawford still hates Ennis because he is ‘overrated.’
