DSPPO Grieves Loss of Officer in Accidental Firing Incident

The Davao del Sur Police Provincial Office (DSPPO) expressed deep sorrow over the untimely death of Patrolwoman Kay Remando Dumasig, a 28-year-old officer praised for her dedication and reliability at Matanao Municipal Police Station.

Dumasig reportedly died in an accidental firing incident at 6:50 p.m. on July 11, 2025, inside the Female Quarter of Matanao MPS in Purok Tahimik, Barangay Poblacion.

Initial investigation revealed she was preparing her issued 9mm Girsan pistol, Serial No. T6368-22CK03370, for a possible buy-bust operation when the firearm accidentally discharged.

The pistol allegedly fell while being loaded, and as Dumasig attempted to catch it, the trigger was unintentionally pulled, resulting in a fatal shot to her head.

She was immediately rushed to MCDC Hospital in Digos City for emergency medical treatment but was declared dead despite efforts by the medical team.

Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) recovered the firearm at the scene, which is now in custody as part of an ongoing investigation.

DSPPO Provincial Director PCol. Leo T. Ajero extended official condolences to Dumasig’s family, noting her genuine commitment and energetic service.

Her tragic death serves as a solemn reminder of the risks faced by law enforcement personnel, even during routine preparations.

Ajero assured the public that the police leadership would adhere to due process and transparency throughout the investigation.

He also urged the community to honor Dumasig’s service and remember her with the respect she deserved.
