The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has emphasized that workers who fail to report to work because of severe weather conditions should not face penalties.

DOLE clarified that absences caused by natural calamities, such as Super Typhoon Uwan, must be treated with compassion and fairness by employers.

The agency explained that employees stranded or unable to travel safely due to floods, strong winds, or transport disruptions should not be subjected to disciplinary action.

DOLE further reminded companies to prioritize the safety and welfare of their workforce during calamities, noting that labor policies are designed to protect employees in times of disaster.

Employers were urged to adopt flexible arrangements, including remote work or adjusted schedules, to ensure continuity of operations without compromising worker safety.

The department also reiterated that private companies retain discretion over work suspension, but stressed that humanitarian considerations must guide their decisions.
