THE Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Monday said initial findings suggest that the death of former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) undersecretary Maria Catalina “Cathy” Cabral was a case of suicide.

DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla said the investigation conducted so far points to suicide based on the available evidence.

Cabral, who was among the former DPWH officials linked to the alleged flood control corruption scandal, was found dead Thursday night after reportedly falling from a cliff along Kennon Road in Tuba, Benguet.

Remulla earlier disclosed that the preliminary autopsy results showed Cabral died from blunt force trauma, consistent with injuries sustained from a fall.

Authorities said the probe is ongoing to fully establish the circumstances surrounding her death.
